Our Community

Engagement

Community engagement is a meaningful way for our employees to give back to the surrounding community.

Local community engagement

As children and youth represent our future, we direct our community engagement initiatives toward benefiting young people by promoting their well-being and development.

This year, we shifted our emphasis from tracking hours and financial donations to measuring impact. Our 2030 Goal is for all Beckers countries to participate in activities that create a positive impact on children and youth. In addition to tracking impact, we monitor key performance indicators, such as hours spent on community engagement and financial investments. Our new impact goal ensures that our efforts align with the lasting benefits we aim to have on young people in our communities.

How we contribute to community engagement

At Beckers, our commitment to community support is integral to who we are. We actively engage in local projects, community programs, and collaborations with selected non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to deepen our social engagement. Our initiatives are designed to support the communities in which we operate.

We encourage our employees to volunteer for local initiatives during company time, reflecting our dedication to community well-being. We strive to mitigate any potential or actual negative impacts through the comprehensive management of all our material topics, demonstrating our commitment to positive community and environmental stewardship.

In 2024, a framework was established and shared in workshops to introduce the concept of measuring impact across our various initiatives to benefit children and youth. The use of impact assessments as well as our other KPIs measuring time and financial donations, resulted in discussions regarding how best to establish partnerships to result and measure lasting impact on the lives of children or youth. Initiatives are driven locally at our different sites with a varying number of participants depending on the size of the site. Measuring the impact of some of these initiatives is complex, but we see that by using an impact lens, we engage in more meaningful projects with lasting benefit, compared to projects focusing on higher participation rates or money spent.

17* of the countries where we operate conducted community engagement initiatives in 2024, eight of the countries benefited children with measurable impact through education, sports activities, career advice, or improved infrastructure. *Singapore was not included in the scope.

Global commitment with local impact

At Beckers, social engagement lies at the heart of impactful change. We believe that to thrive as a business, the communities around us must thrive too. That is why we have anchored our efforts around a common cause – children and youth.

From east to west, our teams are rolling up their sleeves, supporting young people where it matters most. One size doesn’t fit all – what works in Mexico might not resonate in the UK, which is why we empower each country to tailor activities that speak to local needs while staying true to our shared mission and our goal to create lasting impact.

One example is in China, where the Beckers Shanghai team last year was joined by baristas from the Dream Workshop Coffee, which is a café and employment support base for young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Downs syndrome and related conditions. The team from the café gave Beckers colleagues sessions on everything from making the perfect latte to environmental protection activities and recycling, at the same time as the event raised funds to support persons with disabilities in Shanghai.

Another example is in Poland, where the Beckers team has participated in a cycle-to-work initiative to raise money for a local nursery school. The kindergarten has used the money raised to install new playground equipment and teaching aid. The initiative ran from May to September, with Beckers colleague donating a total of 2,500 hours, amassing 40,000 km. A true win-win!

Measuring real impact goes beyond hours volunteered or money donated. It’s about lives touched. Measuring the number of children and youth positively impacted by our initiatives is a work in progress—but one we’re proud to be building, with the support of our owners at Lindéngruppen.

Community by community, country by country, we’re learning, evolving, and aiming to make a meaningful difference.
